Chesterton High School Winter Guard members

The Chesterton High School Winter Guard captured top honors at the 2024 Midwest Color Guard Circuit (MWCGC) competition this past weekend hosted at Victor J. Andrews High School in Tinley Park, Illinois.

The two-day event hosted 38 teams from four Midwestern states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana. Units in all classifications were required to perform in a Preliminary competition that took place throughout the day on Saturday, with the event culminating in a Finals competition on Sunday. On Saturday the CHS Guard put in a solid Prelims performance of their production “Solstice,” which earned them a score of 81.200. “After a late practice Saturday evening, the guard returned to the Finals competition on Sunday with a renewed sense of confidence, and delivered ‘their best performance of the season,’ according to the group’s instructional staff.

“You know the kids are doing something right when a judge says on his recording, ‘What a lucky audience, to have seen such a high-level performance as that today!’,” said co-director Kylene Mitchell. The CHS Guard's Finals performance earned them more than a four-point score increase to 85.570, allowing the group to capture top honors as the 2024 MWCGC Scholastic AA Grand Champion Winter Guard.  This competition marks the end of the CHS Winter Guard’s 2024 season.

Members of the 2024 CHS Winter Guard are: Emma Comfort, Vanessa Godinez, Abigail Krueger, Bri Manning, Haley Martinez, Addie Mason, Katie Radliff, Lucy Rukowski, Danica Sessions, Alina Summer and Caprie Wilson.
