CHS Music Students Have Gold Winning Performances at ISSMA - 5/22

Congratulations to the CHS Music Department students for their Gold winning performances on April 23rd and April 30th at ISSMA Organizational Contest! The CHS Bel Canto & Drifters, Camerata & Sandpipers, String Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble all returned home from competition with Gold! The Choirs traveled all the way to Jefferson HS in Lafayette, IN, while the Bands and Orchestras competed at Penn HS in Mishawaka, IN.

Under the direction of Kristin Morris, and accompanied by Gina Jones, the all-treble voiced ensembles, Bel Canto & Drifters, performed “I am the Wind” (Elaine Hagenberg), “Skip to My Lou” (arr. Michael Mendoza), and “Be the Change” (Jacob Narverud) to win Gold. Bel Canto students are: Amandine Beaumesnil, Samantha Bilyak, Angelina Brack, Isabella Brack, Audrey Butler, Ava Christian, Amelie de Jesus, Julia Dietrich, Laela Dinkins, Genene Engels, Abigail Foster, Taylor Hardin, Makenna Hyska, Olivia Kumar, Kayle Landon, Zoe Lucas, Margaret Maddex, Analise McCord, Emerson McCready, Natalie McGrogan, Kylia Peterson, Jennifer Rader, Emily Rath, Abigail Redman Emma Leigh Rust, Olivia Vogel, Maxie Wallen, Shelby Whalley, Veronica Wilgocki, and Sage Williamson. The unisexed choirs, Camerata & Sandpipers, earned a Solid Gold (All three judges scored them a Gold!) with their performances of “The Music of Stillness” (Elaine Hagenberg), ”When the Earth Stands Still” (Don MacDonald), and “Ritmo” (Dan Davidson), also under the direction of Kristin Morris and accompanied by Gina Jones. Camerata students are: Natalie Arney, Jayne Bartlett, Madelin Billings, Lauren Bolla, Rylie Dhaemers, Alexander Henderson, Jessica Manojlovic, Gannon Michna, Paige Moore, Cadence Orange, Stasha Przygoda, Keven Schmidt, Caleb Vannevel, and Christopher Woods. The String Orchestra performed their Solid Gold (All three judges scored them a Gold!)-winning pieces “Ventus” (Todd Parrish), and “Bylina” (Michael Reilly, arr. Ilya Levinson), with director Brian Grenier and assistance from Erin Gerig. The Intermediate Orchestra students include: Robert Adams, Emmalise Adcock, Rebecca Adcock, Logan Arthur, Arianna Berry, Phoenix Bridegroom, Madison Buckley, Olivia Callaway, Conor Casteel, Angelina Corradino, Morgan Darnell, Claire Demeter, Elayna Doede, Aidan Foley, Savannah Grant, Juliana Guerrero, Kaden Hawksworth, Rowyn Hullinger, Ira Kashyap, Dylan Loney, Samuel Macker, Chloe Mcgowan, James Monik, George O'Connor, Chloe-Joi Pablo, Chayse Pendergrass, Milani Penning, Isabella Puglisi, Savannah Self, David Shook, Luke Sparks, Kooper Sutherland, Lana Troy, Grace Welch, Oliver Wilgocki, Robert Williams, and Marlee Wilson.

Performing “Imperial: March” (Karl King, arr. Swearingen), “Tribute” (Travis Cross), and “Renegade” (Ed Huckeby), students of the Symphonic Band achieved Gold with Distinction, under the direction of Adam Bess. Symphony Orchestra students won Gold with Distinction with their presentation of “Variants” (Jack Bullock), and “March to the Scaffold” (Hector Berlioz, arr. Carter), directed by Brian Grenier. Wind Ensemble students competed at State Qualifiers, and earned Gold with Distinction. Directed by Adam Bess, the group performed “Purple Pageant” (Karl L. King, arr. Paynter), “Irish Tune From County Derry” (Percy A. Grainger), and “Arabesque” (Samuel Hazo), and earned the highest scores the Chesterton Wind Ensemble have received at the ISSMA State Qualifier since 2008!
