On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to Liberty Elementary School. As the principal, I have the opportunity every day to work with a dedicated and caring staff that is committed to the success of our students.
My educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Purdue University North Central, a master's degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University Calumet, and a second master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Purdue University Calumet. I earned my Educational Specialist Degree from Indiana Wesleyan in 2013. I served as a classroom teacher with the LaPorte Community School Corporation for five years. In 1998, I became a classroom teacher with the Duneland School Corporation. Since 2007, I have been the principal for Liberty Elementary School.
I reside in Chesterton with my husband John and step-daughter, Katie. John is the Fire Chief with the Chesterton Fire Department, and Katie graduated from Chesterton High School in 2014. I enjoy riding my bike, spending time with my family and walking my dog, Macey. Liberty Elementary School is part of the Duneland School Corporation. It serves over 500 children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Our school goal is all students will improve their reading comprehension across the curriculum. Liberty Elementary School offers a wide variety of programs and learning opportunities for our students. We encourage a partnership with parents and with our community in order to help our children reach the goals that we have set for them.
In May 2017, Liberty was recognized as a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education. In 2016-2017, Liberty became a Leader in Me School. The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation that focuses on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of highly effective people. In a safe, caring and engaging environment, it is our vision to empower students to find the leader within, to faciliate a love for learning, and to encourage students to be lifelong learners.
