Liberty Int/Middle School - Grades 5-8
Description of Work
Liberty and Westchester Intermediate Schools will be renovated to house students in grades 5-8. This will provide students will more opportunities and will also reduce school transitions from four to three over the course of a student's career in the district. There will be two separate houses for students, one for 5th and 6th grade and one for 7th and 8th grade. This creates a school-within-a-school concept, a strategy that is used to make a large school feel smaller to students and to separate students at different stages of physical and social-emotional development. All students will have some shared spaces, but schedules will be created to ensure that a 5th grade student is not eating lunch with an 8th grade student. The center of the building will still include an expanded cafeteria and media center, along with enhancements for STEM, Project-Based Learning, and Robotics. Renovations and enhancements will also be made in the arts and physical education areas of the buildings.
