My greatest interest is how our brains work in helping (or inhibiting) learning and strive to teach using the most effective strategies to assist all students in mastering the subject. I am not as interested in memorization/regurgitation of the material as I am in students becoming better, more informed learners. Outside of the classroom, I collect hobbies and enjoy doing most anything outdoors: farming, blacksmithing, woodworking, working on vehicles, and relaxing on my front porch watching the world.

Ms. Dana Jelenski

I am originally from Lake County and graduated from Griffith High School. I am also a graduate of Valparaiso University, with a BS in Public Health & Human Biology. Previously, I have taught 8th Grade Science, Earth & Space Science, and Health & Wellness. At CHS, I am teaching the science Project Lead the Way classes: Principles of Biomedical Sciences, and Human Body Systems. While working on my Public Health degree, I realized that most health disparities stem from lack of education, which is what made me realize I belong in the education field. I love this profession, and I feel at home in the Duneland School Corporation. Besides teaching, I also teach dance classes, love to bake, and enjoy spending time with friends and family

I have been teaching Earth & Space Science for the past 20 years and it is my passion. When I was in college, I studied Geology, which allowed me to travel. I enjoy sharing these experiences with my students in the classroom. I also loved to collect rocks and fossils from places I went, I have done so for years, and continue today. Outside of school I stay busy with my children and their activities, but I always find time to work in my garden and take care of my flowers. This is a hobby I enjoy, and it keeps me busy through the summer.

I was born and raised in Michigan, but I have been in NWI for over 15 years now. I earned a bachelor of science in Biology and Earth/Space Science from Western Michigan University, and though I am technically a "Bronco", I am really a die-hard Michigan State Spartans fan. I have been the CHS Marine Biology program coordinator for the last 14 years, the Intramural Sports director for 6 years (but involved in IM for 14 years), and 10 years ago I started the AP Environmental Science course at CHS. I like to read, golf, travel, and spend time with my family.
