    School Construction Impacts Student Meals

Due to ongoing construction impacting meal preparation and delivery, DSC’s Child Nutrition Services Department is making adjustments to its meal services at: Yost Elementary and Liberty Intermediate Schools. Meal service has returned to normal at all other buildings. Updates will be provided to parents as progress is made at both the district and school-level through weekly communications.

The new kitchen and cafeteria at Yost Elementary will be built during the 2023-24 school year. This is due to the phasing required to build a new school on the location of the current school. The new kitchen and cafeteria is expected to be ready at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Until then, menu options are limited due to meals being prepared at Westchester Intermediate School and transported to Yost each day to be served in their Large Group instruction room. A hot meal is currently being offered to students on the fall menu.

Liberty Intermediate students are now eating meals in their new cafeteria. The school anticipates that the new kitchen will be ready after Fall Break (Monday, October 30). Until then, menu choices are limited due to meals being prepared at CHS and brought to LIS. A hot meal is currently being offered to students on the fall menu.

Once construction is completed, all schools (with the exception of RISE Academy) will have their own cooking kitchens with new state of the art equipment. After completion, Child Nutrition will no longer satellite meals to any of the school buildings. This will enable all schools to prepare foods on-site which will allow for a larger variety of options.
