March 19, 2020
The following is an update to the COVID-19 school closure event for the Duneland School Corporation.
Today, Governor Holcomb mandated school closure through May 1, 2020. The order may be revised to extend through the rest of the school year if warranted. As the situation of closure evolves, we will continue to share information with our Duneland families.
The week of March 23 – March 27 will be considered “Spring Break” for the purposes of eLearning/distance learning. As a result, there will not be any assignments posted during this time. eLearning will resume on Monday, March 30, 2020.
We will be changing the location for meal distribution to school-age children during the current school closure. Meals will be distributed at Chesterton High School beginning Monday, March 23rd from 11:00am - 12:30pm. Previously meals were being distributed at Chesterton Middle School. Meals will continue to be distributed Monday through Friday for the duration of the school closure including Spring Break week. Meals consist of a lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following day. Vehicles will enter the CHS parking area through the entrance by the football stadium. Follow signs to the distribution area and pull up to the curb for meal pick-up. Exit onto 1050 North.
During the closure, we continue to ask that if you or a member of your family are asked to self-quarantine, or if you or any member of your family tests positive for COVID-19, please contact your student’s building principal via email immediately.
We apologize for the inconvenience this extended closure has caused our students and families. The pandemic has placed all of us in uncharted waters. We would like to thank all of our families for their continued support. As we plan for the future, we will be taking all possible steps to minimize the negative impact of schools being closed on our students.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your student’s principal via email.
