Drug Prevention and Outreach Program on March 9

Chesterton High School will host a Drug Prevention and Outreach Program on Thursday, March 9 from 7-9 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium featuring a short presentation by key panel members addressing substance abuse followed by a question and answer session.  The program is free and open to the community. Please use Entrance #31.

Panel members will include:

  • Jason Kniola, nationally licensed mental heath addictions counselor speaking on Detection and Early Prevention;
  • Dr. Mann Spitler III, D.P.M., Community Action Drug Coalition speaking on Substance Abuse Prevention
  • Todd Willis, Porter Stark Services director of Prevention and Education speaking on Gateway Drugs/Signs of Substance Abuse
  • Chuck Harris, Porter County Coroner speaking on Consequences and Reality
  • Amber Chaffer, Recovering Addict
  • Karen Moffett, CHS school counselor, Department Chair

This panel group has been organized to discuss the growing concerns about experimental/regular use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. Believe it or not experimentation with drugs and possibly addiction begins at the middle school level. In fact, the latest research suggests that experimentation of drugs is beginning to even reach pre-teens. The problem is not going away. In fact, the problem is getting worse. Something has to be done.

Attend this informative event at Chesterton High School on Thursday, March 9 to learn how to see the signs, get involved and communicate with kids.
