Indiana Gold Star School
Chesterton High School was recently honored as an Indiana Gold Star School. CHS Guidance Department developed a guidance curriculum focused on increasing students’ skills and knowledge in the areas of academics, careers, and citizenship. This initiative enables students to master defined guidance standards, make choices that support high achievement, and reach standards of high achievement.

The Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Initiative was recognized last year by the national Pathway to College Network as one of approximately 100 initiatives across the country that "reflect research-based principles and actions to improve college access and success.”

At Chesterton High School, focus is on the whole student to meet his/her academic, vocational, emotional, physical and social needs. Programs guide students in decision-making, skill development and leadership potential. This concentration will help them grow into responsible school and community citizens; maximize their academic potential; and assist them with personal, emotional, and academic growth.

Check out the calendars provided above for student assistance.

As professionals in educational and career planning, the counselors at CHS coordinate an ongoing secondary plan with all high school students. Students begin services in the 8th grade. Individual, group and classroom presentations continue over the next four years at each grade level to review and update pertinent vocational and academic information.

Additionally, counselors are available to students for advice, personal counseling, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and referral to community resources. Many other services and opportunities are offered to students on an ongoing basis throughout their four years.
